Brooklyn Park is a city located in the central-eastern region of the present-day U.S. state of Minnesota.  Prior to incursions by those of European descent, this area was inhabited by members of the Ojibwa people and Mdewakanton Dakota.  As for the city of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota itself, however, its settlers named it after their hometown of Brooklyn, Michigan.  Originally a township, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota split in 1860.  However, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota would not be incorporated officially into a village until 1954 or a city until all the way in 1969.

Today, according to a 2016 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, the city of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota has a total population of 79,707 people.  This makes Brooklyn Park the 6th most populous city in the entire state of Minnesota.  This also makes Brooklyn Park, Minnesota the 427th most populous city in the country.  Brooklyn Park, Minnesota is also considered part of the Minneapolis, Minnesota Metropolitan Area.  According to that same 2016 estimate, the Minneapolis, Minnesota Metropolitan Area has a total population of 413,651 people.  This makes it the most populous city in the state of Minnesota.  Additionally, this also makes the Minneapolis, Minnesota Metropolitan Area the 46th most populous metropolitan area in the entire United States of America.

Brooklyn Park, Minnesota’s main claim to fame is its abundance of areas full of natural beauty.  In fact, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota has often been nicknamed “Tree City USA” due to its “47 miles (76 km) of trails and 67 parks.”  These astounding parks include the Rush Creek Regional Trail and Palmer Lake Park.  Additionally, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota is also well known for serving as the home for the West Coon Rapids Dam.  The West Coon Rapids Dam is located on the western side of the famous Mississippi River.

Natural beauty and awe aren’t the only places of note attracting people to Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, however.  Brooklyn Park, Minnesota is also home to North Hennepin Community College.  North Hennepin Community College, which was established back in 1966, “stands as one of the largest and most diverse community colleges” within the entire state of Minnesota.  In fact, North Hennepin Community College is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, which is “the fifth largest such system of higher education in the United States.”  Impressively, according to WalletHub in 2017, North Hennepin Community College, a public two-year community institution, ranked as the 67th best (out of a list of 700) community colleges within the United States.  As of 2014, there were 10,705 total students enrolled into North Hennepin Community College’s various programs.  North Hennepin Community College’s Norsemen are this college’s (and this city’s) only notable sporting attraction.

Otherwise, the city of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota also has the honor of serving as the home of the Three Rivers Figure Skating Club.  The Three Rivers Figure Skating Club operates out of the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center.  The city of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota also boasts Hennepin Technical College and Rasmussen College.
