Clearwater Business Signs

Clearwater is a city located on the western most edge of the present-day state of Florida’s protuberance.  Before this was an area occupied by the United States, the Clearwater, Florida region was inhabited by the Tocobaga peoples.  Then, in around 1835, the United States Army built Fort Harrison (after President William Henry Harrison), as an outpost during the Seminole Wars.  This fort was built on a bluff overlooking Clear Water Harbor.  It is believed this name was derived from the fresh water spring flowing from the spot where Clearwater City Hall is located today.  Clearwater, Florida was first incorporated in 1891 and then incorporated for a second time on May 27th, 1915.

According to a 2010 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, the present-day population of Clearwater, Florida is 107,685 people.  Additionally, Clearwater is considered the smallest of the three prominent cities which make up the Tampa Bay, Florida area.  The Tampa Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area, according to a 2015 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, has a total population of 3,030,953 people.
