Eagan is a city located in the central-eastern region of the present-day U.S. state of Minnesota. Prior to incursions by those of European descent, this area was inhabited by members of the Ojibwa people and Mdewakanton Dakota. According to that same 2016 estimate, the Minneapolis, Minnesota Metropolitan Area has a total population of 413,651 people. This makes it the most populous metropolitan area in the state of Minnesota. Additionally, this also makes the Minneapolis, Minnesota Metropolitan Area the 46th most populous metropolitan area in the entire United States of America.
Historically, according to the city’s official website, the city of Eagan, Minnesota was often nicknamed “The Onion Capital of the United States” due to its heavy investment in the onion industry. However, as one can guess, times have truly changed. In fact, back in 2012, Money Magazine ranked the city of Eagan, Minnesota as the Fourteenth Best Place to Live in the United States.
Eagan, Minnesota is home to the headquarters of a wide variety of businesses. These businesses include Regional Elite Airline Services, Universal Cooperatives, Buffets, Inc., West (part of Thomson Reuters), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, Scantron, and Coca-Cola’s Midwest bottling facility.
As reported by Eagan, Minnesota’s 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, the largest employer in the city – by quite a substantial margin – is West, which is part of Thomson Reuters. In fact, West employs a whopping 6,500 locals. The next largest employer in the city is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, which only provides 3,250 local jobs. The third and fourth largest employers in the city of Eagan, Minnesota are the United States Postal Service, which employs 2,000 people, and the United Parcel Service, which employs 1,400 people.
Currently, there are no professional sporting franchises of note located anywhere near the city of Eagan, Minnesota. However, there are imminent plans for the National Football League’s Minnesota Vikings to build a sports training center in the city, which will open in 2018. This sports training center will feature a stadium and six practice fields. As for the Minnesota Vikings, they have absolutely zero titles to their names. The Vikings’ new facilities in Eagan, Minnesota will host competitions sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League.
