Frederick Business Signs
Frederick is a city located in the northwestern portion of the present-day U.S. state of Maryland. Since prehistoric times, this area has been known as a trading crossroads. In fact, prior to occupation by forces of the United States, many Native American tribes such as the Seneca, Tuscarora, Lenape, and Piscataway had contact with one another here. As for Frederick, Maryland itself, though, it was initially laid out by land speculator Daniel Dulany in 1745. He called the settlement “Frederick Town”. Interestingly, it has been lost to time just which Frederick, exactly, Frederick, Maryland was named for. Sources believe it could either be Frederick Calvert, 6th Baron Baltimore (who had been one of the proprietors of Maryland), Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales, or even Frederick “The Great” of Prussia.
Today, according to a 2016 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, the city of Frederick, Maryland has a total population of 70,060 people. This makes it the second-largest incorporated city in Maryland, behind only Baltimore herself. According to a 2013 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, the Baltimore-Washington combined statistical area has a total population of 9,331,587 people. This makes it the 4th most populous combined statistical area in the entire United States of America.
