Livonia is a city located in the southeastern most region of the present-day U.S. state of Michigan.  Prior to incursions by those of European descent and United States citizens, this area had been inhabited by the Kickapoo peoples.  As for the settlement of Livonia, Michigan itself, this town was established in 1835 by pioneers from New England and New York.  They brought with them the name ‘Livonia,’ which is also the name of towns in both New York and Pennsylvania, and derived from a region of the Baltic Sea between present-day Estonia and Latvia in Europe, from which many of these settlers hailed.  The city of Livonia, Michigan was officially incorporated in 1950.
