Phoenix Business Signs

Phoenix was first settled in 1867 and incorporated into a city in 1881.  The city was named for the mythic bird, which rises from the ashes, as Phoenix rose from the ruins of a former civilization.  (The Hohokam people, who lived there for 2,000 years before abandoning the area in 1450.)

Phoenix is the state capital and largest city in Arizona.  According to the 2010 U.S. Census, the city itself has a population of 1,445,632 people, making it the most populous state capital in the US and the sixth most populous city in the nation.  However, the Phoenix metropolitan area, often referred to as the Valley of the Sun, which is part of the Salt River Valley, has a population of approximately 4.3 million people.

Due to its subtropical desert climate, Phoenix is a major tourist destination, ranking among the top locations for Five Diamond/Five Star resorts.  The city is home to over 62,000 hotel rooms, and annually, the area welcomes 16 million visitors.  Many travel to the area solely for leisure, not business.

Phoenix is home to multiple art attractions, many of which are located in and around the downtown area or nearby in Scottsdale.  These attractions include the Orpheum Theatre, which houses the Phoenix Opera, the U.S. Airways Center and the Comerica Theatre (where many concerts are held), and the Gammage Auditorium in Tempe, which was the last public building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Speaking of Frank Lloyd Wright, the world famous architect moved to Phoenix in 1937 and built his winter home, Taliesin West, and the main campus for the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture there.

The Valley of the Sun is also home to more than 200 golf courses.  Other outdoor attractions include the Phoenix Botanical Gardens, which hosts the largest collection of arid plants in the U.S., and the Phoenix Zoo, the largest privately owned, non-profit zoo in the country.

As for sports, the city is home to the Phoenix International Raceway, which hosts several NASCAR events every year.  Professional sports teams include the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals (formerly the Chicago Cardinals), who play in the University of Phoenix Stadium, the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, who play at Chase Field and won the 2001 World Series, the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, who play in the US Airways Center, along with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury (4 time champions), the Arena Football League’s Arizona Rattlers (winners of 3 Arena Bowls), and the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, who play in the Gila River Arena.

Having a sign for a small business in the Phoenix metropolitan area is an optimal way to showcase your services to the community.
