Westland is a city located in the southeastern region of the present-day U.S. state of Michigan.  Prior to meddling incursions by those of European descent, this area was inhabited by the Potawatomi peoples.  Sadly, due to the 1807 Treaty of Detroit, the Potawatomi of the local area were forced to cede their land and leave.  As for Westland, Michigan specifically, however, the land would not be officially settled by settlers of European descent until 1824.  By 1827, Bucklin Township would be organized, which included settlements such as Westland, Livonia, Garden City, Inkster, Wayne, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and Redford Township.

Today, according to a 2016 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau, the city of Westland, Michigan has a total population of 81,545 people.  This makes it the tenth most populous city and 12th largest municipality in the entire state of Michigan.  Westland, Michigan is also considered part of Metropolitan Detroit.  According to that same 2016 estimate, Metropolitan Detroit has a total population of 4,296,250 people.  This makes Metropolitan Detroit the 13th most populous metropolitan area in the entire United States of America.

Westland, Michigan is also home to the Westland Shopping Center.  The Westland Shopping Center, which opened in 1965, is an enclosed shopping mall which currently features more than 100 inline stores.  The Westland Shopping Center’s anchor stores include JCPenney, Sears, and Kohl’s.  This mall was developed by the J.L. Hudson Corporation and designed by Victor Gruen Associates and Louis G. Redstone Associates.  The Westland Shopping Center contains a whopping 1,056,696 million square feet of total retail space.

Ford Career Tech Center, and Wayne Memorial.  Another school, which is part of the Wayne-Westland Community School District, is Perrinsville School, which is also a historical site.  Perrinsville is a one-room schoolhouse utilized by the Westland, Michigan community during the early nineteenth century.  Westland, Michigan is also home to a charter school: Universal Learning Academy.  Additionally, the city of Westland, Michigan is also home to two separate private schools.  These Westland, Michigan-based private schools are Huron Valley Lutheran High School and Lutheran High School Westland.
